!! In German only !!
Marlene Streeruwitz is one of the most important authors writing in German today. In her novels, essays and plays, she uses a very particular language to dissect the grammar of the patriarchy and political and personal configurations of power. Over and over again, she takes a firm stand against the current political situation in Austria and the shift to the right.
Thursday, 03.10., 17.00, Tafelhalle
Marlene Streeruwitz will talk about art and politics with festival director Andrea Kuhn, discussing questions such as: How can someone express themselves politically when the form of a statement always influences the message ideologically? What is the relationship between the idea of a “message” and artistic creation? Are compromises possible? Or necessary? And if yes, which ones?
To close the discussion, Marlene Streeruwitz will read from her novel “Flammenwand. Roman mit Anmerkungen”, which was published by S. Fischer Verlag in May. It tells the story of the disintegration of a relationship and at the same time Austrian politics today, in an uncompromising manner with wit, verve and a good dose of anger. One reviewer said the novel is “an unsparing story about right-wing times that comes at the right time.”
