Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave will bring her directing debut to the 10th Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival. SEA SORROW which premiered in Cannes this year links the current political and humanitarian crisis in the European treatment of refugees with Redgrave’s own childhood. During World War II she was send to the countryside to escape the German bombings of London – in effect making her an internally displaced person.
Redgrave has starred in more than 100 films, has been nominated six times for an Academy Award and won it in 1978 for her role in Fred Zinnemann’s JULIA. Since her break-through year in 1966 when she starred in Michelangelo Antonioni’s BLOW UP and received her first Oscar nomination for MORGAN: A SUITABLE CASE FOR TREATMENT she has combined a passion for film art and more mainstream roles such as in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.
From her early career on, Vanessa Redgrave has been an active and outspoken political activist and became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1995.
